Project Case Studies

XMT Hardware Repurposing

Overview

An operator undertaking a field decommissioning project was planning to scrap the development subsea production hardware. This field produced for a short period; the equipment is in excellent condition.

Evolve Surplus took ownership of the assets, stored the equipment in a facility in Norway and are in the process of recovering key components for use on brown and green field projects throughout the world, whilst providing environmentally friendly disposal of residual scrap materials.

Approach

Following a detailed cleaning process, key components are harvested, cleaned and FAT’d;

  • Wet matable connectors
  • Hydraulic & CI stabplates
  • SCMs
  • Choke insert valves
  • ROV flying leads
  • Test stands/test equipment, sensor/ umbilical simulators
  • Wellhead and tubing hanger running tools

Outcome

Repurposing of XMT hardware has allowed the development operator to monitise surplus equipment that would have otherwise been ‘stored for future use’ or scrapped whilst minimizing the costs and environmental impact associated with divesting/scrapping surplus equipment.

In addition, repurposing allows for the placement of key subsea components into existing field developments and future projects at reduced costs and minimal lead time to the end user.
